Antonio’s story

In 1951 at the age of 13, Antonio Ricci moved with his family from their homeland of La Marche in Italy’s mountainous, central Adriatic region, to Tuscany. There, they bought a small plot of land and began farming in the countryside outside of San Gimignano in the vicinity of Siena. In 1956, Antonio and his father built the house where the family would live until 1972. In 1963 he married Rina, and shortly after the couple had 2 children To this day, his children work in the family vineyard and country inn. In 1972 Antonio built a new home for his wife, children, and his mother, in which they all lived until 1990. This building now houses their inn, or “agriturismo,” beautifully renovated for guests. In 1993 Antonio took the official name La Roccaia for their hilltop agriturismo and vineyard.
